Our MSU Denver Presidential Federal Internship Program students are officially in D.C., ready to dive into their roles and make a difference! 🏛️ Meet the interns ⬇ Isai Lozano, Social Work Major: Interning with Child Welfare League of AmericaIsai, a first-generation college student from Denver, Colorado, overcame academic challenges with support from family and peers. Inspired by the pandemic's impact on communities, he aims to pursue a social work degree to work in child welfare, fueled by his experiences as a Reisher Scholar. Through extracurriculars like being a Residential Assistant and an internship at Denver Human Services, he aspires to create lasting foundations for individuals through macro social work.Denny Palacios, Political Science and History Major: Interning with Senator Michael BennetDenny Palacios, a third-year non-traditional student at MSU Denver, focuses her studies on policy and history related to the Mexico-USA drug trade, drawing from her immigrant experience in Denver. Engaged in campus life as co-chair of The Student Advocacy Council, lead Student for Model United Nations, and a part-time job holder, Denny combines her past as an ESL Paraprofessional with her current role as a Political Science student to advocate for educational equity, aiming for a career in educational law or higher education academia.Miguel Garcia, Political Science Major: Interning with Senator John HickenlooperMiguel, a first-generation undergraduate at MSU Denver majoring in Political Science with a minor in Philosophy, is already active in the Mock Trial team. Hailing from Aurora, CO, Miguel's multicultural upbringing fuels his aspiration for a career in Public Service and Law, advocating for immigrant and workers' rights, alongside his passion for environmental protection, poised to bring dedication and informed perspectives to his pursuits.Mary Preston:Interning with Public Religion Research Institute"At the Public Religion Research Institute, I delve into the intersection of religion and American society, while also learning new statistical software to aid in data analysis for an upcoming report. Outside of work, I explore my neighborhood, savoring its vibrant offerings and building lasting friendships with my cohort, making this summer an unforgettable experience."MSU Denver Classroom to Career Hub

Last summer Colorado saw a surge in mosquito populations, driving up West Nile cases. 🦟MSU Denver Biology students and recent grads, under the guidance of "Mosquito Man" and MSU Denver Biology Professor Bob Hanco*ck, Ph.D., logged over 3,300 hours in urgent mosquito surveillance efforts to help combat the outbreak.The study was unprecedented and featured in an article in the Journal of the European Mosquito Control Association. La Paloma, a jazz trio of MSU Denver students, debuted at Jazz Odyssey Presents, hosted by KUVO Jazz 89.3 🎺The two-hour performance was accompanied by poems and history remarks by a leading member of the band, Paloma Ress.
