19Then Manoah took a young goat, together with the grain offering, and sacrificed it on a rock(A) to the Lord. And the Lord did an amazing thing while Manoah and his wife watched: 20As the flame(B) blazed up from the altar toward heaven, the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame. Seeing this, Manoah and his wife fell with their faces to the ground.(C) 21When the angel of the Lord did not show himself again to Manoah and his wife, Manoah realized(D) that it was the angel of the Lord.

22“We are doomed(E) to die!” he said to his wife. “We have seen(F) God!”

23But his wife answered, “If the Lord had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and grain offering from our hands, nor shown us all these things or now told us this.”(G)

19So (A)Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering, and offered it on the rock to the Lord, to the one who works[a] wonders, and Manoah and his wife were watching. 20And when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the Lord went up in the flame of the altar. Now Manoah and his wife were watching, (B)and they fell on their faces to the ground.

21The angel of the Lord appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. (C)Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the Lord. 22And Manoah said to his wife, (D)“We shall surely die, for we have seen God.” 23But his wife said to him, “If the Lord had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering at our hands, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us such things as these.”

19Manoah took a young goat and a grain offering and offered them on a rock to the Lord, who did something miraculous[a] while Manoah and his wife were watching. 20When the flame went up from the altar to the sky, the angel of the Lord went up in its flame. When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell facedown on the ground. 21The angel of the Lord did not appear again to Manoah and his wife. Then Manoah realized that it was the angel of the Lord.

22“We’re certainly going to die,” he said to his wife, “because we have seen God!” (A)

23But his wife said to him, “If the Lord had intended to kill us, he wouldn’t have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from us, and he would not have shown us all these things or spoken to us like this.”

19So (A)Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering and offered it on the rock to the Lord, and He performed wonders while Manoah and his wife looked on. 20For it came about when the flame went up from the altar toward heaven, that the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar. When Manoah and his wife saw this, they (B)fell on their faces to the ground.

21Now the angel of the Lord did not appear to Manoah or his wife again. (C)Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the Lord. 22So Manoah said to his wife, “(D)We will surely die, for we have seen God.” 23But his wife said to him, “If the Lord had desired to kill us, He would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering from our hands, nor would He have (E)shown us all these things, nor would He have let us hear things like this at this time.”
